Healthcare Is Broken. Here's What I'm Doing About It.

Healthcare Is Broken. Here's What I'm Doing About It.

I spent 22 years in EMS. I have been in a lot of living rooms, kitchens, and back bedrooms at 3 a.m. And a lot of those calls started the same way: something small that never got looked at. An infection that sat for a week. A blood pressure prescription that ran out and never got refilled. A cough that "wasn't worth" a doctor visit until it was worth an ambulance.

Most of those people were not careless. They were doing the math. And the math in American healthcare is broken. That is why I started Fit For Duty Rx.

The system is not built for working people

If you have ever put off seeing a doctor because of the cost, you are not alone. Not even close.

  • 26.7 million people in the U.S. had no health insurance at all for the whole year in 2025, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
  • 28% of adults say they skipped or postponed health care they needed in the past year because of the cost, according to KFF.
  • About 1 in 4 adults (27%) say they did not fill a prescription because of the cost (KFF).
  • 5.8 million people delayed medical care in a single year simply because they had no way to get there, according to a study in the American Journal of Public Health.

And having insurance does not always solve it. Plenty of people pay a premium every month for a plan with a deductible they never come close to meeting. So every visit is still out of pocket, plus a copay, plus whatever the pharmacy charges. They keep the insurance "just in case" and skip everything else.

Who falls through the cracks

When I say I want to get care to people the system leaves out, here is who I mean:

  • People without insurance. Their job does not offer it, it costs too much, or they are between jobs.
  • People who have insurance but cannot afford to use it. High deductibles and copays turn a simple visit into a bill they would rather avoid.
  • Seniors and anyone who cannot easily get to a clinic. When a ride to the doctor costs more than the visit, or a family member has to take a day off work to drive, care gets put off. That is why we built Care at Home.
  • Shift workers, tradespeople, and first responders. People who cannot sit in a waiting room for two hours on a Tuesday afternoon.
  • People who do not fit neatly into any coverage box. They earn too much for Medicaid, not enough for a good plan, or their situation keeps them outside the traditional system. They still get sick, and they still deserve a doctor.

None of these people are asking for a handout. They are asking for a fair price and a straight answer.

What I am building instead

Fit For Duty Rx is a simple monthly membership. No insurance needed. You can talk to an independent licensed provider by phone or video, 24/7, from your couch, your truck, or your break room. No copay for the visit. Prescriptions go to your pharmacy when the provider decides they are appropriate, and with our prescription discount plans, hundreds of common medications are free when prescribed.

You pick the plan that fits you, and you can cancel anytime. You can see every plan and price on our plans page before you sign up. No surprise bills, no fine print scavenger hunt.

No bait-and-switch pricing on medications

Here is something that makes me angry about a lot of the online weight loss world. A company advertises a super low starting price to get you in the door. Then, as your dose goes up, which is exactly how these medications are designed to work, the price climbs every single step. By the time you are on the dose that is actually doing something, you are paying several times what you signed up for.

We do not do that. Our GLP-1 weight loss programs are one flat monthly price at every dose level. The price you start at is the price you stay at. One of our members, Kelly W., put it better than I can: "Other places start at a lower price and skyrocket on higher doses."

No gimmicks, no hidden fees. If I would not be comfortable explaining a price to my own family, it does not belong on my site.

Why weight loss care matters

Weight loss gets treated like a vanity thing. It is not. According to the CDC, about 40% of U.S. adults have obesity, and excess weight is linked to type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, sleep apnea, and joint pain. Those are the same conditions I saw over and over on calls.

For the right person, a provider-supervised weight loss program can be a real turning point. I have heard from members who said it changed how they look, how they feel, and how they see their life. That is why I fight to keep the price fair and steady, so people do not have to quit halfway because the cost jumped.

To be clear: medication is not right for everyone, and it is not magic. A licensed provider reviews your health history and decides whether it makes sense for you. It works best alongside better sleep, better food, and more movement. Some of these medications are compounded, which means they are prepared by licensed pharmacies and are not FDA-approved finished products. We tell you that up front.

Where we go from here

I am a local guy trying to fix a small piece of a big problem. I cannot rebuild the whole healthcare system. But I can make sure the people around me have a doctor they can reach tonight, a price they can understand, and medications that do not come with a trap door.

If that sounds like what you or your family need, take a look at our plans. And if you run a small business and want to offer this to your employees at no cost to you, check out our employer page. Real healthcare. Real doctors. No insurance needed.
